After 15 previous meetings, this game marked the Ohio's first victory over Michigan. Entering the game, both Ohio State and Michigan held perfect records and conference title ambitions. After the loss, the Michigan team spiraled downward with a 1-3 finish, leading to its first losing record since 1891.
