1948 Rose Bowl: Michigan 49, USC 0 Michigan's decisive victory in the Rose Bowl prompted the Associated Press to hold its first-ever post-bowl game poll. In this season final poll, the sports writers gave Michigan the National Championship over Notre Dame, who had finished the regular season in first place. Michigan's wide margin of victory over USC, combined with closer game between USC and Notre Dame was enough evidence to give the Wolverines their 8th National Championship.
