Michigan 43, Miami (Ohio) 10

Miami turned the ball over 7 times, with 5 interceptions.   Michigan was effective at converting turnovers to points, but was unable to establish a running game.   True Freshman Chad Henne started at Quarterback, the first time a freshman started a season opener at the position since Rick Leach.

Michigan 24, San Diego State 21

After trailing 21-17 at halftime, the No. 17-ranked Michigan football team shut out San Diego State in the second half and hung on for a 24-21 victory.   Braylon Edwards scored the go-ahead touchdown on a seven-yard pass from Chad Henne to cap U-M's 79-yard scoring drive at the start of the second half.  Edwards finished with eight catches for 130 yards, while true Freshman Michael Hart rushed 25 times for 121 yards.

Michigan 30, Iowa 17

Michigan won its Big Ten opener for the 23rd straight season as the Wolverines forced five Iowa turnovers and quickly turned four of them into touchdowns for a 30-17 victory. Braylon Edwards put Michigan ahead for good with a 58-yard TD catch from Chad Henne in the second quarter following an Iowa fumble. U-M also had two two-play scoring drives after Hawkeye turnovers, and Grant Mason returned an interception 25 yards for a score.

Michigan 27, Minnesota 24

Michael Hart rushed 35 times for 160 yards, a U-M freshman record, and Chad Henne was 33 of 49 passing for 328 yards and two TDs as the No. 14 Michigan football team earned a 27-24 comeback victory over No. 13 Minnesota.   Michigan drove 87 yards for the deciding score with 1:57 to play, capped by a pass from Chad Henne to Tyler Ecker for the 31-yard game-winning touchdown.

Michigan 45, Michigan State 37  (3OT)

Michigan won with a stunning comeback.   Trailing  27-10 with 8:43 left in the game, Michigan scored 17 points to send the game to overtime.   Braylon Edwards caught three touchdown passes, including the game-winner in the third overtime period.   Quarterback Chad Henne passed for 273 yards and a career-high four touchdowns.  Edwards had  11 catches for 189 yards and a career-high three touchdowns.  Michael Hart also scored a touchdown and rushed for 224 yards, becoming the first player in Michigan history to rush for 200 yards in three consecutive games.

Michigan 47, Northwestern 20

Michigan broke open a close game with touchdowns on its first five possessions of the second half.   After a lack-luster first half, Michigan led 7-6.    Steve Breaston had a breakout game, with two touchdowns.

AWAY GAMES

Notre Dame 28, Michigan 20

Garrett Rivas booted four field goals for U-M, but Notre Dame rebounded from a 9-0 halftime deficit to take a 28-20 win in South Bend.   Notre Dame scored 28 second half points, capitalizing on three Michigan turnovers and a blocked punt.

Michigan 35, Indiana 14

Two long kick returns and career-best days from Chad Henne and Braylon Edwards powered the No. 19-ranked Michigan football team to a 35-14 win at Indiana. Leon Hall returned a punt 76 yards for a touchdown to put Michigan up 14-7, and Grant Mason returned the opening kickoff of the second half 97 yards to set up Michael Hart's one-yard TD run.  Henne competed 17 of 21 passes for 316 yards and three scores, and Edwards caught eight balls for 165 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  Also see General Public ticket (courtesy of Brian Powers).

Michigan 30, Illinois 19

Michigan scored 20 unanswered points to rebound from a seven-point halftime deficit and defeat Illinois 30-19. Michael Hart set a Freshman record for rushing, carrying the ball 40 times for 234 yards.  Chad Henne connected with Tyler Ecker for a touchdown through the air and scored the go-ahead touchdown on a two-yard quarterback draw.   Scott McClintock had a pair of interceptions, including one that clinched the win.

Michigan 16, Purdue 14

Michael Hart rushed 33 times for 206 yards, becoming the first Wolverine since 1990 to run for 200 yards in consecutive games.  Garrett Rivas kicked a 35-yard field goal with 2:45 remaining for the winning score. The U-M defense clinched the victory on Purdue's last drive, when Ernest Shazor forced a fumble that was recovered by Leon Hall .

Ohio State 37, Michigan 21

Ohio State won the 101st renewal of college football's greatest rivalry.   Despite the loss, Michigan still won a share of the Big Ten title and a trip to the Rose Bowl thanks to their earlier victory over Iowa, which was used as the tie-breaker for the Rose Bowl berth.

2005 Rose Bowl:
Texas 38, Michigan 37


Texas won the game with a 37-yard field goal as time expired.   The game featured two lead changes in the final 3 minutes for an incredible finish.   Texas quarterback Vince Young rushed 21 times for 192 yards and four touchdowns, and his performance was the difference in the game.
