After a 33-year absence from the schedule, Michigan faced the
Irish in one of the most highly publicized games of the year. Notre
Dame entered the game ranked fourth in the country, Michigan was ranked
sixth. In the end, the Michigan eleven handed the Irish its worst
defeat in 26 years.
