Michigan's 1984 team ended the season with its worst record in 17 years. Nevertheless, the Wolverines almost pulled off the upset over No. 1 ranked BYU. In the end, BYU beat Michigan to win the 1984 National Championship.

Texas 38, Michigan 37
Texas won the game with a 37-yard field goal as time expired. The game featured two lead changes in the final 3 minutes for an incredible finish. Texas quarterback Vince Young rushed 21 times for 192 yards and four touchdowns, and his performance was the difference in the game.
